![]() The director is known to direct good flicks like Goldeneye and Casino Royale (two good movies), but I wish he did more studied more, had split up more stories to be more single- minded and not work on a cluttered material. This is a summer of superheroes, with 3 down and one more to go (well, technically 5 with Transformers if you're thinking comic book stories), so it's quite impossible not to compare them to each other. Kids will enjoy it, but adults likely will not. But the way the writers and director put things together were a mixture of various plots and subplots crazy glued into one movie for pure entertainment. > Some scenes and even some characters were not necessary (Hal's best friend, even some scenes with Blake's Carol Ferris were not needed) they should have added more action instead Summary, visual effects, actors, GL base story good. (like when there was a build up of momentum, things go slow or boring or from serious to funny without proper pacing) too many stories were crammed into one movie > Humor was misplaced at times (good peg is Thor which had it in the flow rather than contrived/forced) > Parallax looked comical scary at times but only a couple of times > Like Iron Man 2, I wish the fight scenes were so much more they spent too much on the set-up that the fights were short and could have been so much more and elaborate. > It tried to fit too much into one movie, moving back and forth from Earth and outer space/OA, thus there was no proper flow. Visual/CGI effects were pretty good Bad Points. Hammond) to Angela Bassett (Amanda Waller) 8. Good supporting cast from Tim Robbins (Sen. Hector Hammond was well portrayed by Peter Saarsgard (though it lacked a proper finish) 7. Green Lanterns Tomar Re, Kilowog and Abin Sur were damn good but didn't have enough screen time to be significant 5. Blake Lively was eye candy super hot, but not much else 4. Ryan Reynolds did decently as Hal Jordan (though he fits more with the Kyle Rayner/Guy Gardner type than Jordan) - but I wish he was more serious though non-GL fans couldn't care less about this 3. It stuck fairly consistently with the mythos of the origin and Planet OA 2. That really does not matter much when you consider this is the rare super hero movie that is too geeky by introducing Parallax who in the comics is something of a very convoluted plot device, employed primarily to write Hal Jordan out of and back into the comics.(Looooooooooooooonng story.) Since simple is the best way to go in introductory chapters, a good versus evil storyline would have been the way to go instead of the whole willpower and fear thing. As someone who's followed Green Lantern a little bit of a decent amount (not big but fairly decent, for DC character), I liked some things about the movie but I definitely say that it could have been made better, both for casual fans, non-GL fans or hard core ones. Compare that to the series premiere of "Farscape" when Crichton is simply told by his father to be his own kind of hero.Īlong those same lines, "Green Lantern" would have been better off starting on earth, not only because of less reliance on shaky special effects, but also to let Jordan be the audience's eyes as they are opened to the wonders of the universe. You wonder why when nobody asks if he is okay after the crash. Those daddy issues(and he's not the only one) are so bad that he has flashbacks at the worst possible moment of testing a new fighter jet. To be honest, the flaws with "Green Lantern" go deeper than the acting in its story of a man who needs therapy much more than a green power ring. ![]() That leaves it to Peter Sarsgaard to run away with the movie, even under that makeup. The pair are set to star together again in the upcoming comedy movie, Free Guy, but maintain that it will be their first time working together. Plus, Angela Bassett being cast as Amanda Waller is nowhere near as cool as it sounds. Green Lantern co-stars Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi pretend they don’t remember the movie during an interview. And as Katherine Curtis pointed out, he would have been better off playing another Green Lantern, Guy Gardner. Like I have said before, he lacks the necessary gumption to play the hero. of Sci-Fi Action)Ī casual observer might be led to believe that one of the reasons why "Green Lantern" is such a misfire has to do with the casting of Ryan Reynolds in the lead as cocky test pilot Hal Jordan and would not be entirely wrong. But Jordan, a gifted and cocky test pilot, may be the corps' only hope when a new enemy called Parallax threatens the universal balance of power. The Green Lanterns have little regard for humans, who have thus far been unable to harness the powers of the ring each member wears. Its newest recruit, Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds), is the first human to join the ranks. Sworn to preserve intergalactic order, the Green Lantern Corps has existed for centuries. ![]()
